The Allins: One Hell Of A Family
Updated: Nov 15, 2022
Time has been scarce as I'm burning the candle trying to build an audience on Instagram, pack my current place up so I'm ready to move at the end of the month, and just keep my fucking head above water. I did find time this evening to browse the library on Night Flight and watch a rockumentary though.
This is called G.G. Allin: All In The Family on the subscription service. It originally aired on Showtime under that same name.
I'm not a huge G.G. Allin fan. Stories of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll are always hit or miss with me. Once I read that G.G. and Merle's Mother was part of this one, I was all in. Director Sami Saif approached this story with decency. We're all aware of G.G. Allin's outlandish lifestyle and behavior, not giving it more screen time was the right path to follow. Instead, the story tells the tale of how Merle and Arleta (their Mother) are managing after their loss.
Imagine losing a loved one and having to deal with people traveling from great distances to piss and shit on their tombstone. Imagine being a member of a band whose fans come to shows expecting the theatrics of the deceased singer to be part of their current set. It's definitely not something I'd ever want to deal with.
I walked away from this viewing wanting more. While the Allin Family backstory is predictable, seeing the love that the Mother had for her two boys made this enjoyable. Seeing the support that she continues to give Merle was wonderful. They both seem to be finding their way and I applaud them for it. I hope there's more to this story that's shared at some point.
